ABOUT AGM

We publish 6 to 8 new AGM Catalogs each year featuring a selection of over 700 items in every issue. We have offered militaria from eras as early as the English Civil War and as current as Vietnam, but are primarily known for our selection of items from World War I and World War II.

The Content of each catalog varies according to the material that comes in. We regularly have a nice selection of uniforms, headgear, accoutrements, insignia, edged weapons, field equipment, inert munitions, trench art, photographs, etc.

Our First Dibs Guarantee ensures our customers that they have a fair chance at the best items. Everything that we acquire remains a guarded secret until it appears on a catalog. Nothing is sold ‘under the table’ to our friends, special customers with ‘want lists’, etc. Things sell fast and you may well miss the item that you want, but at AGM, at least you have an honest chance at it.

Catalog Operations: Subscribers are alerted of the opening date and time for the new catalog. When it opens, there is always an ‘Oklahoma Land Rush’ type of atmosphere, with many items selling in the first 3-4 days. During this time, the phone lines are continually jammed solid. The fastest and most efficient way to get your order in is through the email ordering system. To ensure accuracy, these are hand-processed by an AGM staff member, and a confirmation email is then returned to you. Many excellent items are missed during the initial mad rush, so if you see something while casually browsing later on, it is always worth your call or email to see if it is still here.

We do not mark items ‘sold’ or update the site until the next catalog posts. It sounds crazy, but we do this for good reasons. If you would like a more detailed explanation, look under the FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) page.

The Seconds System is a function of the computer program that runs catalog operations at AGM. When an item sells, we know who bought it, how many other people asked for it, and who they are. If the first buyer backs out or fails to pay, we then offer it to the next customer in line. It doesn’t happen often, but when it does customers tend to be pleasantly surprised to have a second chance at items that they thought they had missed out on the first time.

Sources: We are often asked how we find all of the items that are offered in AGM Catalogs. Approximately 70% of the items on each catalog are ours that we have purchased at militaria shows or from other collectors either as individual items or complete collections. AGM has representatives buying militaria at shows throughout the U.S. and Europe.

The remaining 30% are carefully screened consignments from fellow collectors and a few trusted dealers. In addition, we handle consignment items for museums that discreetly sell their duplicate items to finance the proper care, maintenance, and growth of their core collections.

If you have items to sell or consign, we would like to hear from you. Further information is available in the ‘We Buy Militaria’ and ‘Consignment Services’ portions of the site.  See the links at the top of your page.

Third Reich and Communist Items: The staff and management of AGM espouses none of the political ideas held by the leaders of Nazi Germany, the Soviet Union, or any other repressive socialist government. We do, however, recognize that artifacts and souvenirs from the military forces of these regimes hold the same appeal and fascination for collectors today as they did for the U.S. soldiers who brought them home as souvenirs in the first place. The fact that we offer such items for sale is not to be construed in any way as an endorsement of the leadership of those countries... except perhaps for General Franco of Spain. Yep – we like Franco – he saved Spain from the Communists – ¡Arriba España!

Who is AGM... and where on Earth is Burfordville? AGM is owned and operated by Museum Resources International, LLC. Our management and staff is comprised largely of unemployable graduates of Southeast Missouri State University’s Historic Preservation program. Before Advance Guard Militaria came along, our staff members held jobs such as Historic Records Archivist, Museum Exhibit Designer, Collections Registrar, and Historic Site Interpreter. The guy who runs this show even worked for a while as a tobacco farm hand, ox driver, and fence rail splitter! (This explains a lot...)

Burfordville was apparently founded by the same people who established Brigadoon; as it often does not appear on many maps. That is just as well, since AGM is not set up to accommodate visitors. It is a very small town in the heart of Southeast Missouri – approximately 100 miles south of St. Louis.
